JADE JONES outclassed No2 seed Eva Calvo Gomez to win a stunning Taekwondo gold.

The defending Olympic champion from Flint, North Wales, demolished her long-term rival 16-7 in a brilliant performance in the women's 57kg category.

After a cautious first round but Jones landed two quick-fire head shots to take a 6-0 lead.

The Spaniard’s coach appealed one of the attempts but failed to give the Brit a commanding advantage.

Gomez hit back as the pair traded blows in the second and a kick to the head made it 7-6.

But Jones, 23, proved her mettle in the third round - landing twice to the head to seal an emphatic win before holding a Welsh flag aloft.

She said: "I'm still young so to be double Olympic champion already is crazy to be honest.

"I started crying before the semi-final because I was just so nervous and felt so much pressure. But I pulled it off when it mattered so I'm just so happy.

No2 seed Eva Calvo Gomez fought bravely but had no answer

"I obviously knew I'd feel some pressure as the reigning Olympic champion but I didn't realise how much it would be.

"The support has been amazing here and I just want to thank everyone. It means the absolute world to win again."

Coach Paul Green added: "She delivers when the heat is on, she's the greatest British athlete in Taekwondo and she probably always will be."
